AGAINST CAN, MUSLIM UMMAH AND OTHER RELIGIOUS BODIES.
Recently,
Nigeria had to deal with one of its major issues again. The issue of Islamizing
Nigeria. And it was the same religious bodies that led the fight. That is not
my problem, Nigeria is always what it is, a secular nation.
And as far the
documents were concerned, this issue had been available since 2014, when the
Federal Government decided to merge CRS and IRK into one Subject, Civic Education.
That’s not even my issue. My issue is the hypocrisy of these religious
institutions.
So with all the
decadence in the educational sector of Nigeria, the only thing CAN could do was
to advocate that CRS be included in the Syllables? With the poor state of
Universities, the countless number of children that sit on the ground in public
schools, the number of school drop outs, the standard of education, the failure
rate among students, the poor reading culture… etc. all that CAN could do was
to simply advocate for inclusion of CRS.
I am not
surprised, even they the CAN, Muslim Ummah, are also benefiting from these rot
of the system that is why they are so blind as not to campaign against it..
By the way, if
schools have to be teaching CRS, IRK, etc, then what is the function of the religious
institutions? In other words, if CRS/IRK is taught by schools, then what are
the religious institutions doing as an existing institution? Propaganda?
I know what they
are doing, they are contributing to the corruptness of the system by accommodating
political thieves, recommending unqualified candidates of their faiths for
jobs, receiving tithes of our stolen treasury and sending faithful’s to MECCA
with our own money.
The recent
blunder that happened in the Catholic Diocese of Akwa Ibom is the last blow
that speaks what I am saying. That a church member was excommunicated simply
because he joined a protest against the action of the state government. And
this is the same church that would offer its pulpit to politicians by 2019.
What have CAN or
the Muslim Ummah said about the current ASUU strike? Nothing. That is all they
have doing-nothing, until you touch anything related to their faith.
By their acts,
they have proved the words of Karl Marx to be true, “religion is an opium of
the masses”, that the religious bodies do not bother on how to elevate the
social, cultural, intellectual and mental capacity of their adherents.
The hypocrisy of
our religious institutions have contributed largely to our fallen state. Our
religious institutions wield large control, if only they can turn such
influence for the good of entire Nigeria, many of our current issues would be
adequately dealt with. If the religious institutions can add their voice to the
fight against corruption, if they can add their voice to the plight of the
underdog, if they can add their voice to advocating for peace, if they can
their voice to national development and if they can add their voice to education,
Nigeria would become a haven.
It has been
experimented and proved right here in Nigeria. In the years before Democracy, the
religious bodies become a strong voice for Democracy. Their efforts paid off.
History has recorded that.
Let’s make
another history.
