SOCIAL MEDIA IS THE OPIUM OF THE MASSES!
Distraction is an enemy of progress.
No one goes far unless he or she is focused on a task. Social media is the highest distractor of the post-truth (Are these guys serious about this word at all?) age. We cannot do a thing without paying some kind of attention to it. Our notifications are beeping, messages are flowing in and every social media network is reminding us that “our friends haven’t heard from us in a while”, we are always been asked, “What’s on your mind?”

The social media never advise us, it never tells us to face other things, it never tells us to care for our families or to pay attention to our studies. It is either it or nothing else. You are either online or else you are outdated. Jim Rohn said that “Poor people have big TV’s while rich people have big TV’s”, he has never been proven wrong, just that there is a little addition “Poor people have big phones while rich people have big time for thinking and application”.
In this age and time, a time where everything posted is truth and cannot be challenged (We are all correct, we own our page and thoughts, so who dare says it’s not the truth? By the way there is no editor to proofread). A time when truth and lies stand side by side, Vanguard and Numerous fake blog, terrorism, and say-no-terrorism webpages, propaganda and real facts together and the sons of the Two kingdoms now have a leveled ground, each propagating its message without a cost. Many thanks to YouTube, Boko Haram and ISIS get their message to over 5 billion people within a short period of time. A thousand pizzas for Mark Zuckerberg all the school dropouts can now teach professors about how the moon gives light to the sun. Blessed be Google, the holocaust never happened. So what next? Post this on my blog, share it on twitter and wait for comments. Wait for the next “best phone” and purchase it. That’s the deal. That’s the life. No, “one more thing” update my apps and get rolling. Life’s cool.
No more time for hangout-We are always busy, don’t you know?(The average person spends Two hours online daily-never gets paid for it) No more taking a walk and talking about life, no more Dad’s Pep Talks-Motivational videos will do that for us. And no more fellowship, I will read online devotionals and pray.
And the next time you see a new product, please share it with me. Don’t forget we don’t have to be outdated. Welcome to the social media age, where some people’s age on Facebook reads 130 years.
Social media stole a lot of things from us. But the thing we cannot allow it to take away from us is thinking and application of thoughts. These two make us human. I know you need to post to your 3 Million friends on Facebook, update your profile picture so your 4 Million followers on twitter will know you are not dead, and upload your wedding video so everyone will know that you are out of the singles club and also to prove to your friends that you have moved to another level. Candidly, you need some time out. Some time to think and to act. There is life outside the media. Get out of the media and live. Mark Zuckerberg takes parental leave yearly and he seldom post on his Facebook page. The twitter geeks are almost not on twitter. Except for President Trump whose office is on Twitter (and Americans are complaining about it), social media remains the opium of the masses. For most of us, social media stand in the way of the greatness that we are meant to achieve. And for many millennial, their phones is the only asset they have and nothing more and they are not looking towards getting more. Their best dream end with the latest phone in town.
It is the thing that makes us forget our sorrows and get connected. And it is the thing that makes most of us unproductive.
As for me and my house, we are not migrating to build a life on the social media. Get some time out of the media. It's time to change the world. You cannot afford to be a fan of this project of changing the world, you have to be the one doing it.
