STEVE JOBS
Jobs left a legacy for our world. He was no Ph.D, no Governor or even a school graduate. Jobs was just Jobs. Right from childhood, he was different. After reading Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson., one cannot but respect the man even more.
Here are five lessons from this man who lived from 1955 to 2011!
PUT A DENT ON THE WORLD:
All through his life, Steve wanted to put a dent on the world. He wanted the world to be different because he was alive. He’s mostly guilty of butting down his workers, but he’s also known for telling them that they can change the world. One time he asked John Sculley, the Former CEO of Pepsi, whom Steve was luring to join Apple, “Do you want to change the world or to spend of the rest of your life selling Pepsi?”. Make sure you're changing the world everyday!
HE DIDN’T DO IT FOR THE MONEY.
In an interview with Robert Cringeley, he told him that he didn’t do it for the money. His motivation was not the money that came through as a result of his innovation. Steve was not obsessed with money. He was obsessed with making finer products for his customers. He was obsessed with putting a dent on the world. One time, after his amazing comeback to Apple, his salary was $1 per year.
NOTHING WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEVE.
As far as Steve Jobs was concerned nothing was Impossible. Steve had a nonchalance towards anything that was said to be impossible. Nothing was impossible in the world of Steve Jobs. An Apple employee told him putting fonts to the Macintosh was impossible, he fired him. Everything was possible for Steve Jobs. People even called his insistence on doing things even when professed to be impossible as “reality distortion field”. If Steve had listened to all the “impossible” he has heard, we would never have had any of his innovation. All the men we know today, the ones history cherish, are those ones that did the impossible. You need to be in the "I'm possible" class.
THINK DIFFERENT.
Think different. Think abnormal. Think weird. Think weird. Just don’t think like everyone. In Apple, market survey does not take place before a product is invented; products are purely a product of thinking. Steve believed that people don’t even know what they want; you must invent it for them.
The real people that change the world are those with the guts to think different. He promoted, supported and lived the think different mantra. Jobs was different. You have to be different, or else be like everyone else.
FOR THE BIG VISION.
When Jobs returned to Apple, one of the things he did was announce a partnership with Microsoft, Apple’s arc enemy. Jobs believed that for Apple to triumph, it must go into partnership with Microsoft. He loved Apple more than he loved his ego. He wanted what was best for Apple not what was best for him. Even after been fired from Apple, he was always lit up with conversations about Apple.
Apple was Jobs big vision.
What’s your big vision?
Big visions are more important than smaller goals. Doing stuffs for the big vision is not something we’re often encouraged to do, but that’s more helpful and important.
You may lose a battle in order to win the war-that’s the mindset of the big vision! Forsake the personal ambition in order to achieve a goal for your family, your team, your company, your community or your country.
Steve Jobs is a hero to me, he has inspired. Thaine Norris, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs are my inspiration in the computer world. My generation is indebted to their dropping out of school, chasing their dreams, facing the challenges and coming up with great products. We are looking at building on the foundations they’ve laid.
However, I must say that I don’t wanna be a Steve Jobs. No. No. That’s not the purpose of respecting great men. And he wouldn’t be proud of me if he found out I wanted to be him. He will encourage my independence, creativity and individuality.
I will put my dent on the world, not as another Steve Jobs, but as Lengdung Tungchamma! You too should put your dent on the world.
Jobs had his faults, he was no saint. He was careless, at first, about his first daughter whom he got out of wedlock. He was cold about the emotions of others. He was brutal to employees and friends who turned foe.
Whatever the case, Jobs stands out an innovator and an inspiration!

One more thing, Steve Jobs presented a phenomenal Commencement Speech at Stanford in 2005. If you've read this post, it will be bad if you didn't read that.
