FACEBOOK, LINKEDIN

Recently, I did an online application for something I am not yet willing to disclose! They asked for just two things; LinkedIn and Facebook handles!

No need for a phone number, explanations, CV or any of those conventional things!
They got back to me with all my details and mission statement! They didn't get it all perfect about me, but they got exactly what I have been saying on those handles.

My application was successful and it left me with a message that I took serious.
Your social media handle is your biography. It says a lot about you and may determine your future job. Don't be stupid.

Be original and be serious!

Imagine your future boss was on your timeline, will you share the things you share? What if your mentor always reads your post, will be saying the things you're currently saying? (Some mentors are actually reading your post)
Just as you try to be responsible whenever a visitor comes to your home you have to be responsible on the social media.

Of course, many of the things you will do online may be trends, but you must in all of these exhibit sufficient responsibility! There are countless stories of people who got their jobs through their social media engagements. Some got life changing opportunities. Strive Masiyiwa took some young people to Rwanda for a program he was attending, all because of a simple facebook comment. This happened two days ago! He sponsored a family to Russia during the world cup because of a facebook comment!

Do you have a LinkedIn account?

If you don't, you are not ready for employment in the new economy. LinkedIn is the new CV. It is only in some parts of Nigeria that CV's are still being regarded as very important. LinkedIn is the way! Create a LinkedIn account. Start building your profile. Build connections. Meet professionals and be professional.

Your Linkedin is your ticket to the professional world!

For long I have been thinking about starting a diary that will narrate my story through life, up to date I haven't successfully initiated that, however, I just realized that I don't have to. Or rather, I am already doing so. My facebook, twitter, instagram and blog can actually be collected into a detailed book about me! I talk about what I feel here, what I do, what I'm doing and how I see the world. I talk to facebook more than I talk to some people. I'm just "updating" stuffs here.
Whether for good or for bad, it is the same for all of us online.

So here's the gist, social media is the new biography. And it is at your will, write a good story about yourself. The pen is your hands...

Be good!

P.S:
All those with fake names on social media, may Mark Zuckerberg help you! He is likely not to. Help yourself, put your real name.
