THOUGHTS ABOUT CHURCH
It is almost unbelievable the number of redundant body parts
we have in the “normal” church setting. The average church in my community has
400 members, amongst these 400, the people who get to do anything during
service are not more than 100. That includes the women fellowship who minister
in songs, the choir, the youth band and worse is the sermon which is preached
by at most 10 people. The sermon always revolves around these 10 people! it
cannot be anyone else.
So we have a group of 300 who do nothing apart from attending Sunday service and “listening”.
The model for God’s church is that every individual person is a member of the body, contributing “EFFECTIVELY” for the growth of the body.
Hold on, I am not unconscious of the fact that the ushers, singers, money contributors are all contributing to the body.
But is that what Jesus asked ALL of us to do?
Does giving money to the church means that that is all you can, and should do in the body? Is that the role God defined for them? Aren’t they expected to do more?
Jesus commands us, more than going to church, being in a choir, giving an offering or being part of the choir, to RAISE DISCIPLES.
If we have large churches with large attendance that are not doing this, then it is the fault of the church. We have failed.
More sadly, it is even the church that created these structures which ensures that forever there are those who will never do anything to the body. We created a system that made others superior while others are merely receivers of knowledge and givers of the offering. Real growth in Christ is when a Christian takes the bold step to raise another individual as a disciple. The call of Christ is simple; it is a call to raise disciples. Anything other than this is your opinion, or more likely your pastor’s (local church) opinion.
But discipleship is hard. And that’s the job we have. Lastly, there is none of us who cannot raise disciples! None.
If you’re not doing that, it is not because you cannot or do not have the power, it is that you’re not obedient.
Mathew 28:19
