TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED|
First of all, you can access
issues without taking sides. One can really analyze issues objectively and seek
for the truth in the matters without supporting any of the parties involved,
that’s exactly what Jesus did when they brought the woman who was caught in Adultery
to Him. He did not defend her neither did he tell them that they were wrong. He
took the position of Truth and not the position of the Pharisees or the Woman.
I believe that is what God wants
us to do always. To stand on the side of truth. Truth is immovable. It is human
positions that are movable.
This is not an assessment of the
Pastor Fatoyinbo saga, this is just a pointer to one issue that I’ve watched
from the sidelines and I hate to see truth being abused. Sometimes, falsehood
is not the only truth to our lives, half-truths are also dangerous.
“TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED AND DO MY
PROPHET NO HARM”
Simply, the Bible means we should
respect the anointing of men God has called. And that means every good thing
that respect means!
But it does not mean that we
should not correct people simply because they are ANOINTED.
First, in Galatians 4:11-14, Paul
tells us a story “But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the
face, because he was to be blamed. For before that certain came from James, he
did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated
himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. And the other Jews
dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with
their dissimulation. But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to
the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a
Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why
compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?”
This was Paul correcting Peter “before
them all”, and he was not correcting just anyone. He was correcting Peter, the
man who was the foundation of the early church, the man who shadow was healing
the sick, the man who was THE ROCK, the one who led the conversion of 3,000 in
one simple, unplanned crusade. Could anyone be a better image of being “anointed”
than Peter? But this was him, being corrected and he did not run to hide beyond
the words of David.
In fact, David himself penned
those words but when he sinned, the Prophet Nathan walked to him and corrected
him, right there in the palace! David, a man after God’s heart, the man whom
God took from nothing and established his kingdom forever. Nathan corrected
that Man Of God.
And by the way, under the new
covenant, there is none of us who are not anointed! And by implication, there is
none of us who should be corrected (if we follow your logic of not touching God’s
anointed).
Correction is a biblical command. We
are commanded by Christ to look out for each other and to correct each other,
to ensure that each is in the faith. The next issue is the nature of the correction, and the Bible says it should always be done in love! Always.
I do not know the truth of the matter between Pastor Fatoyinbo and Bosun Dakolo, but I do know this truth,
please do not misuse it again!
“Truth forever on the scaffold,
Wrong forever on the throne,
Yet that scaffold sways the
future
and behind the dim unknown
Standeth God within the shadow
Keeping watch above his own”
James Russell Lowell
May we be found on the side of
Truth!
