COMMUNITY WATCH| RADIO SHOW
In 2007, the people of Kenya went
to the polls to determine who their leaders will be. The election was marred by
violence, corruption, and many irregularities. It was adjudged to be a “highly”
controversial election. Kenyans rose up in protest, the government unleashed
the full force of its military on its own people.
While the clashes between Kenyans
and the military continued to increase, the world was not aware of the full
tragedy happening. Even when reported, the conflicts were reported as isolated
cases. This was a strategy by the government to make sure the civil uprisings
do not inspire the same in other regions and to also hide the scale of the
horror from the world.
Everything changed when a group
of bloggers and software, developers connived together to develop a web-based solution that was later called “Ushahidi” (A Swahili word which means
Testimony). Ushahidi became a mobilizing tool. Kenyan citizens reported live
stories of acts of violence using videos, text, and pictures.
This led to “the emergence of a
powerful voice- the voice of the Kenyan people telling their story of the gross
injustice being suffered. A voice loud enough to inspire other citizens to
contribute and to stand up for the rights of their brothers and sisters. A
voice loud enough to get the attention of the rest of the world and ultimately
effect the change necessary to bring peace”.
Every Monday, at 4 PM. Patris Radio
will be engaging with various communities through its program “Community
Watch”. Community Watch is a voice for the communities and a check guard for
communities. Our goal is to empower communities to grow! We will follow the
stories, open the pandoras boxes, hold conversations with the stakeholders,
question the representatives, support the mobilization of community members and
support the rising of communities.
Every Monday, at 4 PM. Only on
Patris Radio.
Together with a dear friend and
Brother, Joseph Sunday, we will tell the stories of communities and help them
do better! You can tune in from every part of the world.
